An Introduction to Invisalign Braces

If you currently hide your smile or hate to show it because your teeth aren’t straight, you’ve probably considered a number of different options. The most popular, of course, is to begin wearing braces. However, if you’re an adult, you might not be too excited about the stigma that comes with wearing them, as they’re usually associated with teenagers. Many wonder if they look silly or unprofessional by wearing them as an adult. Don’t worry, though. Thanks to Invisalign braces, there’s hope of getting the best of both worlds. What Are Invisalign Braces?

To put it simply, Invisalign braces are just like the traditional kind, except that they’re much more difficult to see. They have the same exact goal, though, of straightening teeth over time with the help of a dental professional. Their main benefit, though, is that they don’t lock metal to your teeth in order to do so. Rather, Invisalign braces begin with a mold of your teeth and then the thin, plastic result is worn every day, so that each tooth is slowly adjusted over time.

With traditional braces, you need to see an orthodontist on a regular basis to have adjustments done. The same basically goes for Invisalign braces. You’ll see a dental professional who will take a new mold, update the braces you’re wearing and schedule another appointment in the future.

How Long Do I Need to Wear Them For?

The full extent of how long you’ll have to wear them will be unique for everyone. It will depend on your teeth and your dentist’s recommendation. In general, though, you’ll need to wear your Invisalign braces for two weeks at a time before getting them adjusted. This aggressive schedule, though, means that you may only have to wear them for a few months or a year and a half, on average.

Are They Right for Me?

That being said, Invisalign braces definitely aren’t a solution that will work for everyone. There’s really no cosmetic dentistry or product that can claim it is. However, it’s definitely worth considering the limitations of Invisalign braces.

If your smile is currently suffering from vertical problems, these braces probably won’t help you. So if your top or bottom arch doesn’t have a straight line of teeth, but instead a more jagged one, chances are Invisalign braces won’t do the trick. Of course, if you have minor height issues, it might work. You may also not care about such a trivial issue.

Teeth that are rotated to a great degree probably won’t change with an Invisalign either. This refers to teeth that may be turning back away from where they originally started. You may have teeth that are perpendicular to the ones next to it, for example. Unfortunately, these braces won’t help there.

A lot of people don’t like their smile because of a misaligned bite. This can also cause considerable discomfort too, especially if it’s a problem that gets worse over time. Here, too, Invisalign braces probably won’t be able to solve the issue for you. Something like traditional braces are most likely going to be the right idea.

Finally, you probably want to know about how much this solution will cost you. The truth is that it will depend on where you are in the country and whom you go through to get them. However, these braces can easily cost £2500. Payment plans are just about always available though.

While many options exist, Invisalign braces have become one of the most popular when it comes to getting a better smile, especially as an adult. If you’ve put off fixing your smile because traditional smiles seemed embarrassing, Invisaligns make a lot of sense. For more information click here
